Today's movers with a small number of shares actually available to trade. Float is what is left after insiders, restricted stock and closely held blocks are removed. When a stock with a two million share float trades fifty million shares, the entire float has turned over many times in a day, and price moves become violent in both directions.
How to read this. Float rotation is today's volume divided by the float. A reading of 1.0 means every available share changed hands once today. Readings above 10 are common in low float runners and usually mean the move is driven by short term traders rather than long term holders. A small float amplifies moves in both directions, which is why these names fall as fast as they rise.
Limitations. Float figures come from a third party data provider, update on a delay, and are not available for every symbol. This screener covers stocks that are already moving today rather than the entire market. Sorting is done on the data as reported.
